I started building Etch after me and my family were catapulted into the deepest grief having lost my beloved Dad and biggest inspiration, James Rose, in May 2023, just after he walked me down the aisle at my wedding in Italy.
My Dad was a wonderfully creative and passionate Writer and proudest Father of four. I truly believe his creativity, love of beautiful things and language, bringing people together and his devotion to our family absolutely led me to Etch. I've felt his presence (and grammar-policing) every step of the way.
Finding ways
To Honour Him
Like many families after a loved one passes, memorial jewellery engraved with my Dad's fingerprint was offered to us by a very kind Funeral Director. Whilst we loved the idea of wearing a piece of jewellery with part of my Dad's identity engraved into it, we couldn't find a ring that both reflected my Dad's sense of style and was also special enough to honour his memory forever.
We wanted the ring to be timeless and everlasting. As if it had been excavated in Ancient Greece. I wanted to pass it onto my children and children's children, with the knowledge that my Dad's memory will live on, never to be forgotten.

Our Family Heirloom
I knew I had to design the ring myself. My first drawings started and I began carving the signet ring shape from wax which was then cast in solid gold and silver to eventually have my Dad's fingerprint hand-engraved exactly into the perfect fingertip-shaped dip in the centre.
We wanted something that we could wear everyday and in the midst of the grief, I found that it somehow helped knowing that this cherished heirloom will be in our family forever, spreading my Dad's memory as far as it can possibly go.

Wherever We Go
There was something about the sun's warmth that felt healing when my Dad passed. Our family has always shared a love of catching the sun's rays on our faces so a sun symbol felt perfect for our signet ring.
We now treasure this special piece, wearing and interacting with it everyday, thinking of my lovely Dad and knowing part of his identity is with us wherever we go in life.

Etch was started to continue creating the most unique, precious heirloom pieces for those who also cherish their favourite people, whether they are here or not, keeping a connection between you wherever you go in life.

To give back to a wonderful charity that was a crucial support for our family, from navigating the shock after losing my Dad to the months and years following his passing, Etch has partnered with Grief Encounter.
We donate 5% of each and every order to help more children, young people and their families cope with their grief through one-to-one therapy sessions, events, workshops and resources proven to assist in processing such a devastating loss as a family.
Grief Encounter offers the therapy, guidance and community needed for families when the world has turned upside down by a death of a parent or sibling.
